Welcome back in the new World of Ethnographic Arms my friends :)

Let me break the one of the forum rules: "Decisions made by Vikingsword Staff are not subject to public debate."

Decision about new forum was great :D . I like it !

Serious question though, will we be allowed at some point to use custom avatars? The same 9 avatars for all the forum members may become tedious as the member list grows. It would be nice to create more unique avatars to better differentiate posters. Perhaps guidelines/rules as to what constitutes an acceptable custom avatar are coming soon?

Federico, custom avatars may be submitted to Lee for review:

AVATARS are optional small images which appear under your screen name in your posts. For this forum, avatars shall consist of images of ethnographic arms and armour. You may select from a preinstalled library of avatars or you may e-mail an image conforming to this theme to ljones@vikingsword.com for creation of a custom avatar. In the case of requests for a custom avatar, please be sure that you have included your user name and that you send the message from the e-mail address that you used to register.

Have you noticed it's no longer "Edged weapon forum" but ARMS AND ARMOUR FORUM ? Doeas it mean we can post firearms in here ?

On the main site vikingsword.com I could'd find link to the new forum. There is only link to the old one. The old one is still working, will it be closed or something? I don't know, should work on both forums?

Great job by the way, and much new things to learn - I hope it won't discourage some of our forum mates, which are less familiar with computers and internet.

Just trying to see if I can get on the new system.

The cotton picking picture didn't show up the first tme. Let's see if it will this time.

I guess that I didn't get it below the allowable size. Let's try one more time.

Even though I can get the max pixel size below those listed, I can't get the total file anyway near the 200Kb required. I'll mess around with my photo programs awhile and try again.

Last try today. Got it down to 200.2Kb. Program allows only 195.3Kb. Try again later.

One more time

When you want to post a picture upload it directly from your hard drive .
Below the posting text box there is a bar that says 'Manage attachments'
click on that and another window will open with a 'Browse' bar , click on that and find the folder on your computer that holds the picture you want to upload , put your cursor on it and click you should see an option that says 'Select' click on that and the filename should appear in the box , then click on the 'upload' bar . If the image is not too large it should appear in your post , if it is too large it will not upload and tell you that is the problem .
If that is the problem you must downsize the picture to meet the file requirements .

BTW Lee , when I open the manage attachments bar I get about 5 browse buttons , is this for multiple attachments ?

Ian

Need a few dha in this thread. :D

Lee
2nd December 2004, 11:03 PM
You should now get 6 boxes. I changed it so one would not have to wait for them to cycle 1 by 1 when adding multiple pictures. (I can change it back if this is confusing). The limit for number of attachments per post is 12. Attachments cannot be wider than 640 pixels - we can change this if we need to - and there is a 200,000 byte limit - which is more than sufficient for a properly optimized jpg image.

How do I upload my own "avatar" ?

Hi Radu , you can submit your avatar to Lee .

The best feature of this forum is that you can directly upload images from your computer . We encourage members to do this for continuity's sake . If photobucket crashes we lose all of your valuable pictures . If you upload them to the site directly they wil last forever !! :D

Please read the Photo Posting thread also , that would be the best place to post photo questions .

Meanwhile welcome aboard, enjoy our new toy !! :D :D

Ok, guess the files were too large -didn't have that problem before but let's give this a run.

OK now having looked at this I'm not real pleased with the result. I had to shrink the pics to around 240 pixels wide with a resolution of 32 ppi just to get them to upload. Not enough detail in these to get a good look. What am I doing wrong? HELP
Also everything is loading real slow - it that the new software?

Also how can we insert text in between the images?

For the answers to these and many more questions ...

The server seems to be a bit slow, but is slow in the old forums too.
Really slow may be a narrow internet connection and posts with large images.

Also how can we insert text in between the images?
If you are loading the images to the server as attachments, I do not believe that you can intersperse text. If the images are on your own server space and you are placing them with the image tags (little picture icon in the editor) then you can. This limitation is inherent in the software package.
