I posted these some time ago and wanted to link to the recent thread on Chinese Dao, but could not find my original thread(s). So I will post a couple of my dao here.

Starting with a goose quill dao. Note the color of the hilt binding. Yellow was reserved for nobility. Phillip Tom thought this belonged to the equivalent of a Chinese duke.

All this posting on Chinese dao has rekindled my interest in them!

What a nice piece! And in original condition! And the high end style, is it gold inlays on the fittings? It looks like it, and some burnt on gold wash (dont know the proper English word for this, when you use mercury and heat?) on the fittings to. A real court dao – amazing! I'll be 'chuffed to bits' if this was mine :)

Could we maybe see some more pictures, like of the whole blade, that would be great?

Just reading a book on the Forbidden city and they point out the yellow roof tiles of the place, that stood out in a city where the other roofs where grey.

Cracking sword Bill! Really nice!
Its interesting for me to see more examples of the handle binding. Its quite simple (thankfully!)
Are green and blue the standard military colours for binding then?
The pommel is the same as mine too (apart from the inlay of course) I was a little worried about the pommel on mine when I bought it but now I see that its quite a standard shape.

Regards
Gene

Nice Bill, very nice and damn the universe for rekindling your interest, I was hoping you'd sell them all to me :p
