as part of their naval-shipboard / land based arsenals? i am aware that cutlasses and sabers where used, even if in a very limited extent up to WW2, i was just wondering if any country still actively arms its troops with swords of any kind nowadays or if swords now only occupy the parade grounds..

the only example i can find is of filipino marines/special forces/jungle combat units carrying ginuntings.

Special forces all over the world use edged weapons, but it's AK-47 that rules!

Hi,
As far as I'm aware U.S. Navy officially discontinued the use of the cutlass in 1949. The Gurkha Regiments of course still use the Kukri as a weapon.
Regards,
Norman.

i've heard some US Navy training units still use the cutlass unofficially, for ceremonial uses only tho.
