Dajak,
Which one is the "buku"? I am not familiar with that term. What makes that type unique??

Hi Charless the size make it buku or buko
Angled, largest width <5cm Latok Malay, Melanau
Angled, largest width >5cm Buko Land-Dayak
The smallest one is an buku/buko
Do you have the publication off Shelford if not let me now I will send it to you.

Nice collection!!!
The blade of the top one is interesting, it resembles a pandat blade.
The hilt looks a bit strange on that?
The brass dots I haven't seen before on a latok, interesting.
Here is another unusual latok hilt variation.

VVV that is one fascinating and wonderful hilt - I LOVE the knotwork carving! :D
Would you post a closeup?

Thanks,
That's the only one I have seen with that kind of hilt (so far).
Here are the only two I could find at the moment (as I am not at home now).

Sorry Jose,
Maybe a bit late but here are the close ups.
I still haven't seen any other with the same knotwork-motifs

I love the hilt as well. Great carving! Do you think it was ever been covered or bound on the handle?? Seems that the material would break or crack very easily otherwise, especially the way a latok strikes and the pressure on the hilt.

Yes, probably it had some rattan that was lost.
Usually they have a high metal collar.

I just received my first, what I believe to be a Parang Latok. It is a simple but elegant piece, which unfortunately is missing a ferrule ; I wonder would a brass or silver collar or even brass or silver wire be an appropriate repair ?

I think it must have had a metal collar. This because the hilt is tappering towards the blade. wire would slip of eventually.
Nice carving on the handle. start to appreciate this type of weapon :-)
