Here is another moro purchase. Could you show pictures of kris with same "restoration"? The scabbard is recent, but fit well with the blade.

Hi Flavio:

This appears to be a Mindanao kris from the late 19th/early20th C. The use of rattan lashings along the full length of the hilt (including looping around the kakatua) is something we have seen before, but the use of rattan to augment the asang asang is very unusual.

Congrats Flavio. That is a nice kris. I guess you are going to need a lot more room in your home for all these Moro weapons so you can just send me any of your African pieces that you no longer have room for :D. When you start to deversify your collection you will find that you start to run out of room rather quickly. Unfortunately I am now starting to run into that problem myself :( .

Hi Ian, I hope that some members will post pictures of kris with this restoration, because find them with the "search" option is quite difficult. Anyway the restoration on mine is to assure the kakatua pommel more than the handle that is quite firm.

Lew, If you don't have rooms for your moro pieces I can find space here, maybe sending you some of my African arms ;)

Flavio:

Here is a link on the old UBB Forum to another kris with similar rattan wrappings to the hilt -- this example is one that I have had for several years. Apart from my sword and your kris above, I have seen a couple of others with this style of wrapping.
