love the description, everything it is not. except the stunning bit....the brass scabbard looks unusual for a moro kris.
this auction just ended, would have liked to bid but it went over my limit by a few pounds.
Ebay item no. 180118686947 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180118686947&ru=http://search.ebay.co.uk:80/180118686947_W0QQfviZ1)
i'm still looking for a good deal on a moro kris, looks like mandauman got a nice one. i guess from his user name he may know what it really is.

Is the scabbard ment to be like this? is a piece missing? the only reason I did not wade in.

If you're speaking about the top of the scabbard, yes. It's a common design. Sometimes I envy you gents in the UK. So many ethno pieces brought back from the far flung outposts of the empire. :)

the scabbards sometimes had the swelled end on it (wranka or sampir on a keris), sometimes not. both types in the photo on the research site.

the gangya on the blade looks like it was forged along with the blade which i undestand is usually mid 20th c. rather than 19th. still a pretty item. steve f. may have more info.....

$225.00 US is not a bad price; but personally I do not love the workmanship on this piece.

I agree - don't like the quality on it. Brass mounts are not unheard of. I suspect that some of this metal is more recent than the original blade. I would place the scabbard at being Maguindanao, which is the only group as far as I know that has this scabbard style as one of the varients.
