This dao is more the "user." also from Assam / Nagaland / Kachin. Classic example. Laminated forged steel blade 17" long and 2 1/2" wide at the tip. Total length in scabbard 31". All authentic. No repairs or alterations. Thanks, Artzi!

Hello Bill,

nice pieces!

Did there went something wrong while resizing the pics? (The blade seems to be more slender in the last pic...)

Regards,
Kai

Hey Bill, you sure got yourself a couple of nice examples (I also saw the pics on your other thread on the same subject). What's especially nice about yours is that they're complete. Lots of times, the scabbards are gone or have lots of the rattan broken or missing.

It's intriguing that these blades often exhibit the characteristic "hairpin" pattern welding that was used by smiths further north and west in Bhutan, and across the Himalayas in Tibet, and also in parts of the Sino-Tibetan borderland. A couple years ago I came across one of these daos which had two "hairpins" side by side. I shoulda kept it.....

Kai,

Maybe, but the blade is more slender than the higher end one. Realized I did not post good overall blade comparision pictures.

The third dao is from Nagaland.
