Hi all, here is my new moro kris, but first of all i want to thank you three members of the forum: Philkid (Charles), Freddy and Battara (Jose) for the different but important help they gave me to help me to get this beauty :) Thank you dear friends :) :) !!!! This is, as Bill always says, the most important thing of this forum: the people!!! :)
The tail of the pommel is clearly a modern restoration (another wood) and also the scabbard seems recent, but i like it!! Comments are welcome

The restorations are nicely done and it is a real beauty :) So I guess now that you are hooked on Moro blades you will have no use for your African collection so just throw it all in a big box and I will let you know where to ship it ;)

Congrats on a lovely kris. Btw it seems to be a nice old blade.

Hi Lew, thank you very much :) Yep the blade is nice too, with separate ganga and nice lamination. Ah, Lew, for the moment i will keep my african toys, but if you want to send m some of your moro, well i will love them as all my other kids :D :D

Flavio:

That's a very nice Maranao kris but I'm not fond of the repair to the pommel. It looks odd for the period (c. 1900) and I don't think it is consistent with a Mindanao piece (while the scabbard is). The original kakatua pommel would almost certainly have been much plainer with a short, sqare-ended, minimal crest. The carving on the kakatua is well done but not in keeping with the overall presentation of the sword IMO.

Flavio,

Is the band over the pommel a repair or decoration? I have one that looks like a repair on mine.

Nice Kris,

Bill

G'day Flavio,

Nice keris u got there. I like the repair on the pommel. It is not according to period as Ian had said, but it is not a cheap repair IMO. I got pommel that is screwed back into place which is horrible. Congrats on the piece. :)

Hi Bill and Rasdan, thank you very much for your kind words :)

Bill the silver band on the pommel is a decoration and i think that one time it went until the original tail, than when this one was broken also the final piece of the silver band is jumped away.

I was able to etch the blade and here is the nice pattern that it shows!

I like the pattern that is coming out. I would suggest a little more etching - very nice.

I can only echo what was said above; a very nice sword and a great job on the repairs
