Hi guys, wanna know if anyone of you have encountered an ivory pommel with this shape? How old you think this is? Can someone also translate what is written on the blade. This is owned by a holy man. Comments will be much appreciated. :)

Can you post photos of the whole sword?

In my tradition the designs on the blade are called "sigils." The one on the right looks very familiar. Will need to do some research.

I like the piece,

Now that looks like an old and much handled piece of ivory. Lovely patina and carving that has been fondled.

The shape reminds me of one that our host, Lee, posted on the old Forum. I think we concluded it was an older style and more likely to be Malay or Brunei than Sulu or Mindanao.

I will look for that old thread.

Ian.

Edit: Here is the thread http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000589.html but Lee's pictures are no longer there. However, there is a picture of Datu Piang (page 2) with a similar hilted sword

Sorry promised the owner not the post the whole sword. It is now in his "private" collection. :)
