Greetings all,

A very interesting video has appeared on YouTube by a man who specializes in the use of ancient weapons. In the past few days he published a video demonstrating the throwing of the chakrum. At first I thought, “oh no! Not antiques!” But he made chakrum himself in multiple sizes, so extra credit to him. He made the bottom flat and the top in airfoil shape. The one in my collection has a slightly concave bottom. His analysis and commentary are interesting. Qualitative, not quantitative, but useful information about the relative performance of chakrum of different sizes.

This is the first video I’ve encountered on how to throw a chakrum. I’ve thrown plenty of frisbees and aerobies (which were inspired by chakrum) but I never would throw the one I have in my collection!

Here is the link. https://youtu.be/IyBXkhTzAK0?si=o-Mk3-6GoNiX-zES

What are your thoughts?

Skh Nihangs (Akhalis) are the modern 'ancient masters' mentioned. There are a few of them left that practice the full range of Ghatka. You will never see a Sikh without an edged weapon. There are even exceptions to the draconian UK knife laws that allow Sikhs to carry their kirpans, tho unsharpened.
