In my spare time, I enjoy metal detecting. They're currently rerouting a small river in my town. They straightened it in the 1930s to allow the water to drain away quickly, which they apparently deemed necessary at the time.
Yesterday, I found this remarkable object in the excavated soil of the old riverbed. It was nestled among a huge amount of iron ore, which largely makes up the old riverbed.
I have serious doubts about its original function, but according to Google Lens, it's a Roman Bodkin arrowhead.
I also see an image of such a point that exactly matches the one I found. According to the description, it's an Iron Tanged Bodkin Arrowhead. However, my example is larger and heavier and, in my opinion, too heavy to shoot with a bow. Its length is 120mm and it weighs 87 grams.
The area was under Roman rule at the time, but as far as I know, nothing Roman has ever been found in the immediate vicinity. Could it possibly be a spear or ballista, or just junk? I found nothing else except some lead net weights that are difficult to date.
