I am showing this Guyana club again as I have found information relating to this form of club which is quite probably officially antique and not a common form as far as I have found in research. I have uploaded the relevant page as an image and the whole info as a link.

This part ; What are members opinions on the restoration of the dagger tip on this flat club? Leave as is ? or restore with some material ? what material ? Does restoration lessen perceived values more than the damage? I had the idea of using black milliput putty. It is a small area and a black repair is not trying to hide anything. I think trying to blend in a wood repair would be difficult to match colour texture and patina? Have any members got example and experience of wood repairs/restoration?

Hello Tim,

I would leave it as is! The break shows an old patination, so I wouldn't restore it.

Detlef

Agreed, but I would love to hear some wood restoration tips...

Yes leave as is Tim. As Detlef said it has a nice old patina and probably could have come as a result of contact with someones head:o.
If repair is needed in wood then a suitable putty coloured to suit with a stain is OK but only if absolutely needed.
