An old Tuareg allar(h) spear, 173 cm. It had a thick layer of black paint on it , removed with a paint stripping paste and brushed away the paint layer with a brass brush. Derusted with sandpaper, 3m sanding sponge and steel wool, to a level acceptable to me. In good condition with many details, brass, engraving on tip and shaft, leather still in good condition. A fine addition to my takoubas. Now a Tuareg shield, but fairly rare.

Hi Marc,

All I can say, it's a very nice spear/lance! Congrats! For my personal taste, the foot is still too rusty. ;)

Hi Detlef
Thanks and you are right and cleaned up the foot more. More balance now between foot and tip.

Hi Jim

No problem, I'm happy to contribute.
This spear was reserved only for the 'nobles', imouhar and a weapon essential for warfare. Made entirely of iron, balanced and graceful.

Marc,
Very exciting to see someone putting together the complete ensemble of Tuareg items! These Tuareg tribes are some of the most anthropologically fascinating, and these arms are remarkable. The work by Nicholsen really covers this and you are pretty much bringing that to life in the groupings.
It would be awesome to see these shown together!

I am currently unable to present these objects as I wish due to my wife's illness. Only a particle has been presented, the rest is somewhat in a heap in my office. Takouba and kaskara and some more East Africa objects photo, already posted once.

Marc
