Picked this up out of curiosity more than anything else.

Grip is leather, Length o/a= 38.5", blade = 33".
No marks that I can see (expected those half moons).

For turistas? Thoughts?

n.b. picture of the sword overall is a composite of several images.

Ed,

It is a takouba from North Africa. This type of sword is most famously associated with the Touareg but many other groups carry them. It doesn't look tourist to me. You will soon get a wealth of additional information from other forum members.

Sincerely,
RobT

I agree that it does not look like it was made for tourists though the leather hilt material looks newer than the rest of the sword, but that could very well be standard maintenance.

I believe it to be the real deal, made for local wear and use. Probably mid 20th century. Blade could well be older. Is it flexible?

Hi Ed, good takouba, no tourist stuff. Good blade, European maybe and as already said handle more recent than blade.
Regards
Marc

Oh yes best to remove active rust. There are plenty of tips on the forum on how to do this should you have little experience with it

Blade is very flexible ... The pommel appears to be ferrous with the narrow cap piece not. Perhaps brass? GOLD???

Judging by the oxidation, brass. Gold does not oxidize .
