This is what I believe to be an Austrian Hungarian M1904 Cavalry Sword.
I believe it to be a Presentation Sword and the inscription is driving me crazy. I can not make out some of the Calligraphy; what I have is " Never Dare for any Reason to Take Care of Her Nehne Ghr." Obviously I'm missing something, so I would appreciate an assist, lol.

The German words are "Zieh ohne Grund nie Deine Wehr, versorg' sie nie ohne Ehr", this is in English "Do never pull your sword without a reason - put it never back without honour", 8th August 1911.

Nice sword! I believe it’s a customised dress sword for an Austro-Hungarian cavalry officer. The pommel cap has the owner’s monogram and the basket features S:t George and the dragon. Other baskets feature the Habsburg eagle. In my opinion these swords are more desirable than the ones with plain baskets. It’s a pity that the nickel plating seems damaged in places. Don’t think you can repair this. But the fishskin grip looks surprisingly good condition. You can buy an antique portepee to complete the look.

Thanks Victrix. The plating has some minor loss here and there, but not very much. The blade is in amazing shape, probably because of the very tight fit of the scabbard.
