A friend of mine acquired this dagger recently and would like to know more about it. I with my limited knowledge in this area I guess that it is from the Middle East, Persian maybe and I also think that it is possible that the blade is from wootz.
I am sure that we have members here who will be able to tell us more about this nice dagger! ;)
So, like always, all comments are very welcome!

Hello,

your dagger is indeed persian and called Zirah Bouk. This kind of weapon was developed for penetrating chainmails or other lighter armours.
The age is difficult to estimate for me, maybe around 1900. Take a look, if there is a date in persian letters hidden in the gold koftgari.

Regards
Robin

Hello Robin,

This was very fast! Thank you very much. Like I said before, it's not mine, it belongs to a friend.

Detlef

Very tough to tell in the current state - I think you need an exploratory etch.

Often these blade are made from laminated steel.

Hello Kai,

Thank you. :) My friend got in a batch without knowing what it was. I've told him that it is from the Middle East, mot probably Persian. But my knowledge for this part of the world is very limited.

Regards.
