Back from Sunday's Arms and Militaria Fair in Birmingham (UK) with a small haul of collectables, and here is one of them. A Machete, sold to me as Victorian Military issue, but having seen another here very like it, I doubt that. Now for the photo's.

David,
This one looks like yours. Says it's A 19th Century British `Steamer' Machete,
“Steamer” was a trademark of Robert Mole & Sons.
The site.

This is of course exactly why I posted it on this forum!

David, you might check with an online search to see if Robert Mole and Sons had a South American franchise that made these under license from Mole. I had reason to look into Robert Mole and Sons many years ago, and I seem to recall a history of the company that may prove helpful. I no longer have a copy of that document, unfortunately.

I will certainly be doing more digging around for information, apart from anything else Mole are well known British sword makers of the era, and it intrigues me that they made machetes as well.... I have more than a few service swords, but to date this is my only (as far as I know) Mole! Regarding the use of Spanish text, I see that as a clue to the intended market rather than manufacture. My Collins Legitimus no22 is stamped up in Spanish, but is made in Hartford (Connecticut).
