Hello. Curious if others have seen ginutto with bone disks instead of the usual shell. Clearly a lot less work to produce.

Hello Jeff,
Frankly said I have only seen a few ginuttos so far and when I remember correct the most with bone discs. Also the here: http://vikingsword.com/ethsword/ifugao/index.html shown example has bone discs. I own a few hinalung and pinahig but sadly all missing the belt.
Regards,
Detlef

When you read the description of an example the Lindenmuseum Stuttgart shows online (https://sammlung-digital.lindenmuseum.de/en/object/belt_2422) carefully it's nearby that the ones from bone are of later manufacture would be my guess.

i agree with Sajen - most of these I've seen are made of bone discs.
Nice to have a complete example.

I used to have this, I was told it was a pregnancy support belt. The discs were shells.
Were the shells for the more affluent since they came from lowland coastal areas, acquiring them would likely mean a purchase or barter, just a thought.
