View Full Version : Modern wootz fakes... or not?!

I have noticed recently a rather unusual abundance of "antique" mostly Turkish, but also Persian and Indian, wootz swords in pristine condition that would make the most prestigious museums envious.
However, the wootz pattern, while beautifully vivid, is mostly of the crystalline type, unlike the fine flowing watery patterns of the antique wootz.
Am I too paranoid to suspect many of them to be modern fakes, or my suspicion is justified?!

Yes, some photos would be very helpful and interesting, but considering the very sensitive nature of this topic, I would refrain from posting any specific examples.

It's quite difficult to comment on the antiquity of a steel you haven't actually seen, though.
