I am sharing my latest acquisition. This is the best of its kind in my collection. I am not sure if the guard is a later addition to the sword but it looks good on it. One part of the guard is foldable which I will post a photo later.

I'm pretty sure the guard was sourced from another sword and cut to fit this one.
A very nice piece.

Thanks Rick. I am not familiar with this kind of guard.

Those guards can be seen in swords used by the colonizers in several locations- Cuba, Mexico, and of course Philippines. European guard. Nice hybrid!

Agreed! To me it looks like a very effective close quarters weapon. Since the guard is hybridized was the technique using it also hybridized with blade-on-blade contact and perries with the side of the blade? I do not know by the look of the soldered joint how much pummeling that guard could take.

Well, I see the break midway along the guard and the solder at the pommel, but I am inclined to believe this might well be a repair for damage done AFTER the guard was attached… which may well answer your question about how much this guard could take. ;)

Would you please post pictures of the pommel from the top?

Hello Battara. Is this the view that you want?

Hi H0ll0wman,

Nice sword, as other have said already. The general style of the handle suggests Central or Northern Luzon to me. The scabbard is in great shape. Have you fed the leather? It looks a bit dry.
