Was this made by an Indonesian who had seen a Tenegre or a Filipino who liked Indonesian blades and scabbards?
The face is very similar to a tenegre hilt that I have.
O/A length is 18"
Blade is 13"
Blade thickness is 3/8"
The scabbard bands are brass and tin ( I think beer can )
All comments welcome.
Thanks

Newer and not Filipino… maybe Indonesian… I’m definitely not an Indonesia expert.

This is an Indonesian 'Golok' from Sundang (West-Java). dating from the first half of the 20th century.

West Java, the hilt (perah) is trying to mimic "Maung Buhun" hilt style .. Maung = tiger, buhun = ancient, old, sacred Was this made by an Indonesian who had seen a Tenegre or a Filipino who liked Indonesian blades and scabbards?

Hello
I meant the comment to be a bit "tongue in cheek" but it looks as though that has backfired on me.
The main point was the " monster" style of hilt that I had not come across before in these Goloks.
The anthropomorphic hilts that I have ( and have seen)are mostly eagles and very simple parrot heads.
This one reminded me of the monster head on a tenegre.
Perhaps naturalist is correct.
Thanks
