I picked these up recently. The Talibong has been associated as belonging to the Christian Tribes in the Philippines; this is the first one that I have seen that has a scabbard marked with what appears to be the Christian Cross. The second item is a short heavy chopping knife that I have not encountered before.

The Talibong is in the form or the older Garabs from the Pulahan era. The elements in the scabbard and handle appear to be continuations from that tradition. The rattan wraps on the scabbard and hilt also point in the direction. The blade form deviates from the Garab design, lack of thumb rest… etc… and likely points to an evolutionary track that originated in the Pulahan area and picked up new elements as those smiths were forced to relocate to other areas. Either way it’s a nice piece!!

Thanks, Sajen; I would never have guessed that the shorter one was a talibong, based on the length, shoutness, and curvature of the blade.
