Hello dear members,

Some time ago I acquired a large Indonesian sword but I never before have seen a similar one but I guess that it is a Sulawesi sword.
Any ideas? Can someone provide a name for this one? It is 65 cm long inside the scabbard, 63 cm without, the blade alone has 48,5 cm and it's 10 mm thick at the spine directly behind the handle.

Like usual, are all comments are very welcome! :)

Nice one, Detlef!

Let me know... ;)

Yup, I agree with attributing this to Sulawesi, most likely from one of the southern peninsulas.

Regards,
Kai

Thank you Kai! Will keep you in mind! ;)

Any name for this one? Or similar ones for comparison?

Detlef

Thank you David! :) And yes, it's heavily laminated. Special the both batu lapak motives at the base are interesting.

Detlef

Pretty much along the same lines as the 2 posted in this thread:
http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25047 ;)

Name will very likely depend on the ethnic group (once this can assigned to a specific group with any reasonable certainty) or village... Possibly one of the generic words for sword like kelewang or alameng won't be too far off the mark, I guess.

Kai

Hello Kai,

Yes, this makes sense since the blade shape is very similar, also when the one in the from you posted thread is much smaller.

Name will very likely depend on the ethnic group (once this can assigned to a specific group with any reasonable certainty) or village... Possibly one of the generic words for sword like kelewang or alameng won't be too far off the mark, I guess.

With Alameng I can live very well, when you look to "Senjata Pusaka Bugis" there are also many swords just called as Alameng.

Detlef
