View Full Version : A pair of Burmese Dha Hmyaung ?

These were recently listed as African at a recent auction site. I believe them to be Burmese Dha Hmyaung, probably the late 19th Century, early 20th century.
Am I right, wrong, are maybe these are African?

I've never seen anything like that from Africa.

Certainly looks SE Asian to me.

I'd also say Dha from region Birma/Thailand, here's mine with the same garlic shaped pommel and filigree decoration on the tubes.

Marius is correct. These are typical Shan silver work. Could be late 19th or early 20th C, although these knives are still being made today. These slim, highly ornate knives were often used as part of a man's wedding attire. The blades are of highly variable quality. They are mainly intended for show these days.

Of course Marius and Ian are correct, these are Shan daggers! ;) :rolleyes:
