Thank you! it is a unique variety with that type of handle and fuller. The scabbard is also very nice. I dont know why though the fuller is brass and the handle is silver, but both seem original to the blade. its very pretty though..

Hi sfenoid,

Perhaps the owner upgraded the hilt and scabbard to silver when his social standing increased or he became more affluent/influential. Not uncommon in many cultures.

so he still couldnt afford to update the fuller? :)) may be some people like gold and silver together

Очень похоже: "этот меч как Зульфакар, увидев его твои враги разбегутся"

Very similar: "this sword is like Zulfakar, when your enemies see it, they will flee"

What’s the English transliteration? I don’t speak Russian unfortunately

I don't speak Russian either... but to me

"this sword is like Zulfakar, when your enemies see it, they will flee"

sounds like English.

;)

PS: Very nice Yataghan and to my eyes from the Balkans.

It was copied without understanding what it should mean and with words missing,
probably by an illiterate artisan:

[Darbından bu] bıçağın cümle düşman tar ü mar
[İntikam alır] aduvvdan sanki misli zülfikar

“[From its blow] this knife‘s enemies are scattered,
[It takes revenge] upon the enemy like Zülfikar.”

These are very common verses on yataghans

Thank you very much! Does the cartouche one the back(the second picture ) have a date you think ? Like 27 may be ?
