Hello everybody,

I wanted to show you these two small swords,

I think they are old algerian flyssas but with interesting ottoman influences :

one with a nice carved scabard and a silver/white metal hilt with a small guard who reminds me an ottoman style.

The second, a crude straight- little curved yatagan like blade but with a carateristic flyssa hilt shape.

Both north africans ? Algerians ?

What do you think ?

Kind regards

and the yatagan-like...

Both are Algerian. There are multiple threads on the issue, but it generally appears that the flyssa originated from the yataghan. I have one that has retained many yataghan features, but shorter than your impressive example.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment !
Congratulations for your sword ! Nice and complete with the scabbard !

In ''my model'',
the blade is not made with the same steel than the usual flyssas,
seems better steel made for fighting and no decorations,
that's why I wonder about it's origin.
but maybe it's different because it's just an older model ?...

For the second sword with the chiseled metal-silver hilt and the small guard,
I think it's not a common shape,
I wonder if this model was made for high ranked persons or chief or maybe a later change or just a fantasy ?

Kind regards
