French Sword Blade for comment

Hello,

I bought this sword, or better this blade because all the rest of the sword is not original! It was sold has a hunting XIX sword but i'am sure this is a wrong information, the blade was not for hunting and it is of very good quality, very well balanced, has 2 engravings in french with (nobility) symbols as the pictures shows.

I think the blade is from a french sword of first half of the XVIII century, used by somebody of the nobility, i would like to restore this sword so any opinion for the style of the parts i should use in the restoration will be welcome!

This is another member with a blade similar to yours, if I remember correctly. I'll send him a note to take a look.

I think your blade has also been shortened /reprofiled some.

Interesting piece. How long is the blade? Of course, refitted, but the wood has a nice patina and the grip has an interesting ribbed pattern.

My apologies for speaking too soon. The other sword had recently been sold. That blade is on a 17th C Campaign sword. Exactly like yours except longer and "Roy" is spelled "Roi".

Here were their thoughts on these blades.- "Its the blade of what the French called a forte épée the type first turned up on German swords around 1550.
This one is indeed first half of the 17th century and shortened, these are very rare.
With this inscription it were used by guard regiments of the French king, could be Royal Guards, could also be musketair du roi , Royal dragoons etc."

Thank you all for your opinion that seems similar to mine.

The blade is 65 cm and it was shortned for sure,the wood parts are at least from XIX century (somebody adapted the sword for hunting), the engravings are very important they show special symbols like the liz flower!

I would like to restore this sword any pictures of original swords similar to this one ?

i think i found a very possible original sword with similar blade, it is labed as royal dragons forte epee cavalerie sword...
