Hello everybody,
I just bought this dagger in an auction,
I wonder if it's an old one ( 17th ? ) or copy.
Length 17,5 inches
the blade seems antique and has engravings fulled with brass ?
the guard is interesting with the snake? heads.
Hand protection with a fleur de Lys ?
the pommel has the shape of Carlos V sword ( a lot of copy !...)
and five dots .

Perhaps too fancy and heteroclite for be true...

Hello,

Thats is the Lys flower yes, about the dagger how is the blade ? its sharp and solid ? the blade seem's original all other details are unsual and and not really designed for battle... but can be somekind of cerimonial dagger... all the details seem to point for french origin, i would look if there is any coat of arms in france with 2 snakes or dragons and liz flower.

Regards,

BV

Hello BV,
Thank you !
Yes the blade is still sharp ( I wounded my thumb testing it ! ;) )
Maybe ceremonial dagger made in the 19th century in France ( violet le duc )
I thought about what you said, the link between lys and dragon...
It can be a François 1er dagger, his symbol in heraldics was the mythical salamandar ( who didn't burn into the fire !) look like the quillons ends ??!!
and the lys is common too in french royal families
