Hello everybody,
I finally received my kattar dagger,
it was all rusty,
I started to gently remove rust with vinegar,
for the blade ist's ok and nice pattern under the rust !!!
for the hilt-guard not really ... I have to try something else...
or will you leave it like that ??
What do you think ?
Kind regards

Ok, hold the blade, nice blade by the way:-), hit the side guards gently against wood - what do you hear?
If you hear like a tuning fork, it is made in one piece, but if you hear nothing, the blade and the hilt were likely made in two pieces, and put together.

I haven’t quite seen a pattern like that. Might have been heavily acid etched fairly recently.

Hello Jens,
Visually I think that it is made of two parts but when I tried you ''trick'' it still sounds like a bell.
For the pattern, maybe it is a recent blade on an old handle but I really don't think it can be acid etched,
for remove the rust, I scratch at least 1mm on the blade surface
after the soft acetic acid bath.
the pattern would disappear or be reduced with this treatment but it is clearly present and enhanced on the side of the blade too.
