Hi

I will make a some day trip to london next month. My wife and daughter wanted to visit madame Tussaud.....and this will be absolute uninteresting for me. So I will have some time for myself and want to spend it with some far-eastern / indonesian bladed weapons. I think the wallace collection (?) which is only a short walk away could be a nice Idea ? Maybe there is an interesting dealer near by ? Any information will be welcome.

Thanks And best regards Thomas

How about the Royal Armmoury in Leeds? It is only one or two days away on a bike:-). Joke away, it may be worth a visit, alothoug I have never been there.

Also check the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum. Both are great.

Imperial War Museum is good although perhaps more contemporary.

The Wallace collection is fantastic
Lot of Indian weaponry but also medieval armor as well
Greys antique center is v close by and has lots of dealers of all sorts, Centre is not open much on sundays though.
My favorite of contemporary Militaria is HMS Belfast.
Enjoy the trip.

Sometimes the obvious gets overlooked. If you haven't been there, don't forget about the Tower of London, for sometime during your visit. Revenge yourself for Tussauds. :D

The national army museum Chelsea
have a good collection of Indian swords and grand grand uniforms of the 19th century.

Depending on how long time you have, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge should be worth seeing - although I have only seen pictures from the museum.

Thank you Ken, Tim, Jens and treeslicer.

I will push my wife to visit the tussaud during the first day. I think the wallace will be first choice for me and then I will see how much time there will be for more on the following days.

Thank you all

Thomas

You cant do anything wrong visiting The Wallace Collection, but make sure to read all about before visiting.

The Wallace collection is your best bet. While you are checking out the blades etc, the Family can visit Regents Park, which is just up the road and a visit to the Sherlock Homes Museum will be fun, but can be busy, so book if possible.
It won't take you all day to see the Collection, but they have some really nice pieces.

There's a nice and quaint little antiques market in Islington called Camden passage. You might end up buying a dagger or an antique sword from one of the shops there. Happy hunting!

Yes, if you are interested in Ethnographia, and can get away, the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford is worth visiting
