Recently came into possession of a couple of hand-me-down weapons, not sure what they are or if they're worth keeping. Apparently they were collected by an American soldier in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

Any ideas?

Hi Harry,

The first knife is indeed from the Philippines and is called a gunong (AKA puņal, puņal de kris, belt kris [but it's not a kris]). It looks like a good one. Based on what I learned in this forum, the second knife appears to be from the Kerala area of India. I think the blade shape is more unusual in that the typical blade on these knives is recurved. Very nice indeed but could use some TLC.

Sincerely,
RobT
