Hello All,

I picked this up a whole back but am only just now getting to posting it. I believe this would be called a cundrik, and that it is from Lombok. I don't know much about it, or the type. The fiittings seem to be made of brass

I do have a couple of impressions of this example.
1) The blade is ridiculously thick at the base. It also thickens again near the tip.
2) Despite, it's remarkably well balanced, and the handle feels very comfortable in the hang
3) The fullers near the base of the blade look an awful lot ricikan from a keris.

Any thoughts on the quality of age of this piece?
I'm happy to hear any and all opinions.

Thanks,
Leif

Hi Leif,

Yes, I would also call this a cundrik. As to age, I find that hard to judge from the pics, but probably late 19th C. Could be earlier or later, but that's my best guess.

Ian.

Hi Leif,

I am complete with Ian, my one is shorter and without "fullers". I personally would clean/polish a little bit the brass fittings and as well the handle pommel, they are normally smooth and glossy polished. The blade would benefit from a polish and etch/warangan, it is most probable a pamor blade. When I find time I can take pictures from my own example.
