I just got this French sword at a local antique shop. It's a double-fullered 36.5" blade, 43" overall. Does the inscription indicate it's a Coulaux-made sword from the 1856-1870 period, or is it later. No scabbard and no date I could find. Not my field of expertise. Thanks, as always.

Here are a few more pics. I meant "Klingenthal".

You have a French "sabre d'officier de Carabiniers M 1854", made by Coulaux Frères à Klingenthal

Thanks Corrado. Am I correct in thinking it was made 1856-1870, after they took over the factory and before the Germans took the town? I'm basing that on the "Manu de Klingenthal Coulaux er Cie" inscription.

yes, you are right. Your sabre has been made by Coulaux at Klingenthal before the Franco/German War of 1870/71.
