Already posted this elsewhere on forum but maybe the wrong section, as I received no comment.

My request is in reference to an EICo. officers sword which dates to 1852; the blade etched with three lines of script; this having been viewed by a number of people, two of which can read Farsi.

Whilst a couple of the words were recognized the larger part of the inscription doesn't appear to be Farsi, could not be read by them, the suggestion being that it might be Urdu.

Looking for someone who can give an accurate translation, and how it would be written in English.

G'day Gordon,

Great sword. Any chance of some pics of the rest of the engraving? Is that a garter star I see?

Cheers,
Bryce

A friend was able to read the last part, said 'it says Shehr London, City, London'

Do have other images however they are all to big to upload. No not a garter star, it's the number 3 at the middle of a star-burst. The sword belonged to an officer of the 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry.

Thanks Jon MB, that makes sense, two words down, now try and work out the rest.

Jon MB,

This is as close as I've got, the last part matches.

"garden aur beta oska shrik…shahre London"
