Dear VikingSword Forum,

thank you for allowing me to register on here.

I recently went to an auction and purchased an axe, from the pictures the axe shaft seemed much thicker, however on arrival the axe head was tiny and the shaft wasn't as large as I hoped.

I sent images to another member who told me this is a 'jerz axe'.
I purchased this for £60, at the bottom of the shaft there is a big crack, i am considering getting an ironworker to steel cap it...around 5 or 6 inches from the bottom so it covers the crack in the wood & also get the top of the axe steel capped. Pictures are attached.

regards

there are a few threads here on those, a search on 'jerz' or 'jers' will show it. search for 'mussandam' too. ;)

Nice piece shastardhari. Personally I would have someone who is good at repairing wood glue and close the splits in both ends of the haft. They could then reset the original ferrule at the end placing the nail in a different location (drilling a small pilot hole first to reduce stress) to help keep the split from reopening. This way you can keep this piece all original and most likely save a few dollars as well by not having new replacement pieces made. This of course is JMHO.

Best,
Robert
