View Full Version : Sword of Albania

Yesterday I've got this sword with remarkable details on its sheeth and kyrillic inscription on the blade what I translate as "Giaggia 1821". The double eagles without a crown could be the coat of arms of Albania. Unfortunately I cannot find the meaning of the blade's signature. The hilt is of cast brass and the sheeth of copper, whereas the details are made of cast brass too. Any comments?

Sorry for potential disappointment. This is very suspicious item that is likely a recent copy. Are there any authentic examples of such daggers, or is is made-up fantasy type? There are some Balkan/Albanian design elements, such as pistol grip shaped handle, but overall it is a weird mixup of crude quality.

Not disappointed. I thought it was a uncorrect and recent item because of the double eagles with and without a crown.
Thanks

Hi
You can find a lot like this one.
The date is commemorative, it's not the date of the sword or the blade...
I was thinking that they were Greek...

It is a modern souvenir commemorating Greek Independence ( 1821)

Exactly. The inscription reads Yannina, an informal name for Ioannina, the capital of Epirus.
