I have been loaned this by a lady who has had this item hanging up in her in her cottage . She was told that it was a whaling tool for cutting up baleen but I am unsure. Anyone seen anything like this before > Overall length inc shaft is 100 cm , blade length inc socket is 30 cm. The width of the tip is 5 cm . The blade is very sharp both at the tip and the edges.

I see your point ( oops ) but I have some of these Tuareg spears and it is not like them ... this is very sharp and designed for cutting

Try to Google for flensing tools for whales.
You will see that there are many different flensing tools, but I too think this is a whale flensing tool.
