What type of fragrant wood is used in Taiwanese aborigines carvings?

Hello, I have a pair of Taiwanese aborigines wood carvings. They seem to be book ends. I am interested in the fragrant wood it is carved from. Does anyone know what this wood may be? Perhaps someone can share some history about the wood carving industry among the Taiwanese aborigines and if certain types of fragrant wood were commonly used? I have several other pieces of Taiwanese aborigines wood carvings and they all have this distinctive scent that fills the room. Thank you so much for any help.

Camphor wood... Please see http://wood.mlc.gov.tw/english/a2/a01_01.asp It appears that in WW2 The Japanese cut all the camphor forests down and planted tea trees. It was discovered later that the Camphor roots were left behind but could be recovered and carved into magnificent items...Camphor produces a wonderful perfume thus was additionally ideal for scenting rooms ... :shrug:
