I would like information about this kindjal . I am aware that the holder was a Greek who brought from the war of Crimean.
The initials of the manufacturer is A. H and date 1843. It has yet to stamp on the silver 84 had in Russia. 40 cm long and wootz blade. What you say that could be the country of the construction area?

I see no wootz or just damascus.
Most likely, it is a Georgian manufacture, likely Tiflis ( Tbilisi).
If there is a stamp, it would be nice to see its close-up pic.

I believe this is not a maker’s but a Russian assay mark. The second letter is an И (Cyrillic I). It looks nearly identical to the mark of assayer A. Inozemtsev of Novocherkassk , but he was, apparently at least, active between 1844-1847. There should normally be in addition a maker’s mark and perhaps a town mark. Comments from members versed in Russian hallmarks would be very welcome.

Hi Stelio,

Very nice Kindjal thanks for sharing. It is very similar in style to the Turkish Trabzon kindjal but the decoration and marks show it to be probably Georgian as stated by Ariel. Andreas is spot on with the name of the assayer. Anyway it is a very nice piece. Does it have a scabbard as they sometimes carry marks.
Regards
Miguel
