Got this African sword from an online auction.
It has a heavy, hand forged blade and is rather sharp.
Blade length: 48 cm / 19", overall length: 52 cm / 20.5"
Can anybody help me ID it?!

Hello, it's nice, but common Salampasu sword from south D.R.Congo.

Hello Marius,
it's a Salampasu sword from Congo, do a little bit search by keyword "salampasu" and you will find other examples.
Best regards,
Detlef

I don't think so, they look all very similar.

Purchased from Oriental arms many years ago. I have sometimes wondered about the pouch at the base of the scabbard, it almost looks like skin.

Hello Marcus,
this one look different, special the scabbard. The leather toe pouch is also unusual but don't think that it is human skin.

Looks like rawhide to me, most likely goat.
Best,
Robert
