I recently bought a European military flintlock that was converted to a ball and cap hunting rifle. There are no marks on it whatsoever except on the guard over the trigger. It appears to be a W with a smaller A over it. Any idea what military it was from?

Could you please post a foto of the total gun left and right side?

Hello

Maybe it has nothing to do, but there are some Belgian weapons which have one W stamped with a crown. So an imitation of the Brown Bess English and a copy of a French musket.

Hello blue lander,
Can't you take a more clear picture of the mark ... and also of the whole gun, so that we may know what it is about ?

Hello
Indeed, it was a military flintlock, percussion made. The trigger guard, hairpiece, was used in the French rifles grabbed him from behind by a hook and ahead, by a piece that also has the ring for the gun holder, although this issue is filed and which in turn is attached to the stock timber by a pin. Many Italian weapons (Kingdom of Piedmont) copied French models, and shape of the hammer reminds me a lot to these copies

Do these barrel proof marks mean anything to anybody? I've looked at lists of French, Italian, German, British, etc marks but so far no matches. There's an M with a star over it, a cursive capital D, the number 28, the roman numeral II, and two D's.
