I am inspired by Shakethetrees Pesh Kabz ( http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=20743 ) to try and identify this knife. The seller thought it was a Pesh, but it is unlike the Afghan Pesh I have seen. The chisel work on the blade and guard look Indian to me. Does anyone recognize this? TIA for any help!

I like those, the quality is nice, but are newly made in Afghanistan as far as I know. Some are nicer, with all metal construction. The dealers from Afghanistan in Sharjah souq sell these often.

Thanks. It may be recently made. I don't have a clue as to its age, but am all ears if someone else does. Can you provide any supporting text for this assertion? Thanks again.

I would suggest you look closely at the engraving. It is to crisp you see this with mechanical engraving. Basically they use a pc hooked up with a engraving drill. I have also seen this used on older pieces to add some flash.

Thanks. The engraving does look too perfect, and the blade doesn't look as old as the bone and wood used in the handle. I think you are right. I'll put this one down as contemporary Afghan. Thanks again!
