Dear members forum,

Please help me with the spearheads of Africa. Which people or tribe they belonged to?

Thank you in advance.

These spear heads appear to me to be from the borders of Congo, Sudan and Great lakes area of modern countries. There seems to be a mixed collection. without the rest of the spear it is hard to be certain.

There appear to be collection tags on a couple of the images you posted. Could you clarify where the spears are held (a museum) which will perhaps help for users to find answers for you...

As Tim notes, its often hard to make an identification without the entire spear being present including shaft and butt.

Iain unfortunately collection tags will not help. These spears are stored in the museum, where I work. The labels information that they are from Central Africa. I would like to know more, to supplement the information in the collection tags.

The great lakes and surounding regions might as well be central Africa.

Hi Mahratt,

Thanks for the clarifications. :) I'll ask a friend who's a spear collector if he can ID any of them.

Hi, Iain.

Thanks for the help. I find it difficult to determine the upper left tip of the spear. I found out that the tip of the spear on the top right - from South Sudan, the Dinka people. A three spearhead that bottom, with high probability, the territory of modern Rwanda and Congo people Ngbandi.
I will be very happy to hear the opinion of your friend.

so my friend Iain call me I will try to help a little bit.

First with this tiny pictures it's really difficult to ID the spear points and not to see the spear shoes and shafts makes it not easier.

The first point could be from the Fang in Gaboon.

The only point I can ID clear is the one in the bottom line on the right, it's from the Ngbandi in DRC. A complete spear you can see here ....

Left of this one is possibly from Burundi, Rwanda (Tutsi people).

Above the Ngbandi could be from the Sudan, but not clear to see on the picture.

The last I don't know.

I hope it helps a little bit and whenever better pictures are available please show them.

Best
