just lost bidding on a black cherry root ball shileighlegh fro Northern ireland in the last few seconds.

on the way out i noted a somewhat famliar tho slightly different shape being sold at a nominal price from dublin as a "Vintage 31.5" Blackthorn Style Knobble Ended Hardwood Walking Shillelagh Stick". somehow i think it's roots were a tad further south and slightly east.

i did consider there may have been an irishman at rourke's drift that forgot to bring one back with him, so he carved his own. somehow i think that is a low possibility. or maybe a zulu immigrated to dublin and started making bata?

i am awash with knobkerrys. good thing i like them. i did want to find one with an offset head like this.

31.5 in. 379 grams, head roughly 62x68 mm.

A NICE LOOKING BONKER :D THE PATINA IS NICE AND THE DESIGN LOOKS PURE AFRICAN EVEN DOWN TO THE FLAT SPOTS TO PUT GREASE ON. IT LOOKS LIKE A LONGER PRESTIEGE TYPE RATHER THAN ONE MOSTLY FOR THROWING.

Definitely Zulu, and a very good variation of the normal offset knobkerrie. A really nice find
