Hiya everyone. Seeing all the good blades on this site originating in the Philippines filled me with the desire to have at least one of these for myself.
Yesterday I was able to buy this one...... Is it a Philippine Bolo, or something else. Still in "as bought" condition, and no indication as to whether it has a mono-steel or laminated blade.
The blade is about 7 mill thick at the base, and there is an iron pin or rivet through the bulge of the black horn grip.

It is a golok from Java. Nice one but need some care.

Thanks for the information, I did wonder. Oh well, happy as I am with the piece I must now resume my quest for a Philippine blade.
Any ideas on its age and use.... a weapon or a tool, this century ( the last hundred years) or earlier.

Hello David,

a golok is mainly a farmers tool, special this simple ones and still in use so it will be difficult to determine an age for it. I would guess middle last century for it since it has seen use. Do a little bit research by the key word "golok" and you will find other examples.
Be careful with the Philippine blades, they are addictive! :D ;)
