cruising thru FB, i came across this conversation. owner was wondering what this item is. my first thought was it's an indo-persian axe. is it, or is it something else???

This looks European to me. My guess would be a Victorian interpretation of a 15th century war hammer?

I agree it is EU and very likely as TVV describes.

Yes, a mix of Mamluk mace, Mughal zaghnal, Qajar axe and European war-hammer... Strange... The decoration is likely Indo-persian.

I know nothing about the axe but Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901. ;)

Decoration is "Baroque" with S and C motifs. But looks similar to Western Asian "rumi" decoration patterns from a distance.
