Hello fellow collectors,

I was offered this first quarter, 18th century Russian Hussar's sword / saber from a private collection. The blade has the monogram of Catherine I of Russia. I have searched but am unable to find another Russian blade with the same monogram? I have only found very similar monograms with Catherine the II of Russia and none from Catherine the I of Russia. The brass hilt of this saber has a square inspection or maker hallmark also which I can not make out? The monogram looks correct but Catherine the I died in 1727. Did the Russian hussars have brass hilted sabers in this period or iron? Is the blade remounted at a later period or period mounted? Does anyone know anything about which weapons the Russian hussars carried in the period between 1725-1727? Catherine the I has a short 2 year reign making this piece extremely rare if correct but I am unable to confirm it against a period piece if even one exists? Please any knowledgeable persons with serious input would be greatly appreciated! Or if anyone has the contact info for Russian Edge Weapon book author Alexander Kulinsky ?

Hi swordcollector,
As you can see, the images you posted did not appear, as your photobucket links are all mixed up.
On the other hand, photo hosts are not adviced, as they may be moved and will be not kept permanently in the threads.
For this time you may email your pictures to me and i will upload them directly in your post.
