The seller thought it was middle eastern, but it looks more south east asian to me, possibly from indonesia/malasia? It also bears some resemblance to the dahong palay somebody posted a few days ago.
Auction pics are blurry, but it appears to be a fairly stout blade, and there are some markings on the side.

Would like to see better pictures, special if the tang is peened through the hilt and some better close ups from the markings on the blade which look more Thai, Laos or Kambochian to my eyes.

Detlef

I'll post better pictures once it arrives. The seller's in France so it makes sense it may have come from one of their former colonies. I can see a little resemblance in the blade shape to an Enep

It finally arrived. Testing with a magnet, the tang only extends to nearly the end of the bolster. The markings on the blade are pretty well struck. They look similar to the ones in this thread (http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001291.html) about recent tourist dhas from Thailand.
The blade has a nice distal taper to it. I'm still cleaning the blade but I wonder if the wavy lines on the blade are evidence of differential hardening.
