Picked this up cheap today, very solid and utilitarian. Is it a parang or something else? Where and when?

It is hollow ground on one side and concave on the other.

Hello Marcus,
it is a knife from the Philippines, Luzon. Exact name I am not able to tell you but others will be able. Nice find! :)

I believe it is a dahong palay.

Hello Marcus, A nice catch especially when it still has the original leather scabbard with it. I agree with Detlef that it is originally from the Philippines and made on Luzon. If I had to put a name to it I would just refer to it as being a small bolo. Again, a very nice catch.
Best,
Robert

Anyone have a comment on what appears to be the maker's mark?

These pieces pecifically are made around the Laguna area. They still make this style except with aluminum fittings instead of brass. Very thick from what I can remember.

I've seen a very similar knife up for auction recently. It wasn't as nice as this one and probably not as old. It had a sideways "B" as the maker's mark.
