Maurice,
Merry Christmas to you and your family also! And thank you.
Charles,
I am with you, I also have never seen before this way rattan binding.
The complete sword with scabbard is in a very good condition with the exception of the small missing piece of wood at the mouth of the scabbard. Have already asked the seller if he still keep this piece of wood but haven't answer until now.
Best regards,
Detlef

Congratulations!
Nice catch, complete with all features and as a bonus the blade shape (pointy) is a rare variation, too.

Thank you Carlos! :)
Michael, thank you as well! It would have been my question. All Minasbad I have seen has a rounded edge, it's the first one with a pointy blade. Do you know others with this blade shape?
(1) Uuups, forget this one: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13890&highlight=minasbad

In the Stone's book it is lumped together with Parang Naburs.
While it is quite possible that the two are related, it is tremendously important to differentiate their construction and origin.
Many thanks for the education.
Happy New Year!

Detlef, I have seen other ones, too. They are much more rare than the rounded version.
Ariel, on the description of "Parang Nabur" Stone managed to make 0 out of 100 correct (the pictures, the text, and the quoted reference as well are all wrong).

Congrats Sajen.
I have been in search for one similar. I like that clam shell type guard.
Can't wait to see the photos after you clean it up a bit.
